He Got Game

I’m sitting here watching the men’s PGA Tour, starring Tiger Woods. And I’m on the phone with my grandfather…the avid golf fan, and die-hard Tiger Woods fan.

Tiger hits this AMAZING, damn-near, hole-in-1 shot, that pulls him ahead to the number 1 spot (after falling behind days before)…and the crowd erupts, as Papa and I cheer on the phone.

Papa says with glee:

“Look at Tiger go. He got game. He’s a Tiger!”

It was the cutest thing ever. It brings me so much joy to hear the joy in my grandfather’s voice, as he watches his personal hero and virtual prodigy put it DOWN on the golf course. A course that had been dominated by “others” for so long, and has since been taken over by one of “us”.

In all his 76 years, my Papa finally has someone like “him” to cheer for and who brings SO much to the sport he loves, and to sports in general.

Chilling out, with a glass of brandy in hand (true Papa style), Papa can barely control his excitement at watching Tiger Woods come-back and launch himself right back to the top of the ranks, where he belongs. And I can barely control my excitement knowing that Papa is witnessing a dream come true for the next generation, and generations to come.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. My (prospective) sons aren’t doing football and basketball. We’re doing golf.
