Today’s Word: “Stewardship”
I didn’t forget about Today’s Word. This particular word has spanned over the last 2 weeks, and today we brought it all together. As my spiritual maturity grows, I’m getting more word than I can recapture. And I’m so thankful for it.
It seems like every time I have a question or an internal battle/concern, God answers me in the very next worship session/class that I attend. Its crazy awesome being tapped into Him like this!
Stewardship
This word gave me so much insight into the purpose and direction of my life. It cleared up so many questions I had, that I previously just charged to “faith” to resolve. But now…I actually ‘get it’.
Every thing on the earth belongs to God. Trees, animals, humans, money, cars, clothes, time. We are here as stewards of God’s belongings. We are here to manage His creation. Our time, is His time. And how we spend our time on this earth, is a direct reflection on how we value God’s time.
There are 5 delineations of time management:
- God’s Time
- Work Time
- Family Time
- Play Time
- Down Time
We are expected to balance our time accordingly, and make sure we are not living our lives out of order. (e.g. too much Play Time, not enough Work Time; too much of God’s Time, not enough Family Time; etc)
Why is God entrusting us to manage His creation? Well how we manage our time now, how we manage our family now, how we manage our finances now…is how we will manage our time in His most precious kingdom (should we make it there).
If He cannot trust us now, with these worldly gifts and pleasures, how can He trust us with the bigger, more glorious treasures awaiting us in Heaven?
This life is a test, if you will. An examination…an evaluation of our faithfulness. And God rewards faithfulness with favor.
Reference: Matthew 25:14-30
What we’re managing here on earth is peanuts compared to what awaits us. But if you can’t handle the simple tasks God is giving you now, then how will you handle the bigger ones?
I get it. I soooooo get it now. I don’t want to fail Him. I want Him to promote me as a manager in Heaven. I’m up for the challenge.
God has also blessed each of us with at least one talent, based on our ability. As the saying goes…”God never gives you more than you can handle”, so if you’re wondering why someone else appears to have more talents than you…its probably because they can handle the responsibility of managing those additional talents. The more you receive, the more responsibility and accountability is required of you. So, be careful of what you wish for, when you wish for increase.
But the good news is…we all get the same return on our investment. Regardless of how much seed we are given to start with, if you use your talents to benefit the Kingdom of God, He will double your gifts.
You are not in competition with anyone else. Its not about who has the most talents or who has the most “worldly” success, but about who is faithful to God. And those who show their faithfulness to Jesus, will receive the same reward – Heaven.
In the meantime……we are free to be ourselves, take the gifts God gave us, and use them to His benefit. Thank God we don’t have to perform for anyone else, or measure up to anyone else’s “worldly” standards.
Be a good steward of God’s creation. Be a good steward of God’s possesions. Be thankful and (most importantly) satisfied with the gifts and the blessings God’s given you. Invest into God’s Kingdom, and make the BEST of the time He’s commissioned to you.
God Bless!
